Sales Contract
What to expect:
When you buy your puppy you are entitled to receive from his breeder an individual form to register him with the AKC. If the breeder has not received these forms back after registering the litter, he is required to give you information identifying your puppy in the meantime. This should include the name of the sire and dam, their registration numbers and the date of your puppy's birth.
When you do receive the registration form for your puppy, fill in the information carefully. On the front side put a choice of names. On the back side fill in Section B, sign the form, and mail it, with a check, to the AKC. It will be returned to you with the puppy now transferred to your ownership. Place this registration in a safe place. You must send in the blue slip within twelve months of the date it was issued by the AKC. After that time your dog will not be eligible for registration.
Most breeders will also include in their packets for the new owners, a four- or five-generation pedigree, the Vizsla Standard, a history of the breed, feeding instructions, and vaccination and worming records.
Ask the breeder what kind of guarantee he gives concerning the new puppy's health. A reputable breeder will stand behind a guarantee to take the puppy back if he does not work out in his new home, or eventually shows a fault such as size, bad bite, hip dysplasia, or any other fault which would eliminate him from showing or breeding. They will either offer a refund or replacement puppy. Ask for a written contract spelling out such guarantees.
It will be up to you to take your new puppy to your veterinarian to be checked over within a few days of purchase. Take along the shot and worming record and follow your veterinarians recommendation for a schedule of care. |
